Tottenham vs Roma Predictions

  • Full Time Result: Tottenham Win
  • Correct Score: 2-0
  • Both Teams To Score: No
  • Over 2.5 Goals: No
  • First Goalscorer: Brennan Johnson

Spurs are still on a high after thumping Manchester City last weekend in the Premier League and the Lilywhites will be keen to press on as they welcome a Roma outfit who sit closer to the Serie A relegation places than the top six and already operating under their third manager of the season.

Ange Postecoglou has presided over two wins from two at home in the Europa League so far and will be keen for Spurs to get their business done and secure a top-eight finish in the league phase. That would relieve them of the need for a two-legged play-off in the spring to advance to the last-16.

Roma are in something of a crisis and their domestic form is matched by European struggles, with just three goals and one win from four games in continental competition.

Tottenham vs Roma Tips

Tip 1

Tottenham have scored in the first half in three of their four Europa League games so far, the exception being the 1-0 home win over AZ Alkmaar in October.

It is worth backing the Lilywhites to get their noses in front before the interval en route to defeating Roma.

Postecoglou’s side were exceptional against Manchester City and that result means they have led at the break in four of their six Premier League wins this season.

Roma have managed just one win in their last six games across all competitions, losing four of those contests and trailing at the break in three of them.

The intensity with which Postecoglou’s side attack the game when they are at their best could catch the Italians cold. While they might not manage to blow away a stoic Roma side in the manner they did with Man City, it would be no surprise to see Spurs in front early on and managing the flow of the game.

This could prove a relatively low-scoring win as Roma will be content to defend deep for long spells.

Tip 2

Brennan Johnson came on after the hour-mark at the Etihad last Saturday but the Welsh ace was in the right place to benefit from Timo Werner’s pass in stoppage time as Spurs piled the misery on City.

He was on target for his country against Iceland before that and the 23-year-old is now into double figures for club and country this season.

He is on track for his best goalscoring season and the winger looks as though he is developing into the player Tottenham clearly thought he could be when they paid Nottingham Forest more than £47m in the summer of 2023.

The end product wasn’t always there last season but Johnson is maturing all the time and it shows in his play. After a 28-minute cameo at the weekend, he looks a likely starter here and will be a big threat to Roma.
