Greece vs England Betting Tips

Interim manager Lee Carsley will lead England out at the Olympic Stadium in Athens and the 7.45pm kick-off is being broadcast live on ITV1.

Setting The Scene: Greece missed out on a place at Euro 2024, losing on penalties in their play-off final against Georgia, but they have responded with four wins out of four in the Nations League.

Striker Vangelis Pavlidis scored a deserved injury-time winner against England at Wembley, but the Three Lions have won their other three games and are still in the hunt for promotion to League A.

Thomas Tuchel will start his role as England manager on January 1st so interim boss Carsley will take charge of this week’s games against Greece and Ireland.

He must cope without a host of senior players as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden have all withdrawn from the squad.

Greece, bidding for a sixth-straight victory, welcome back Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis, who missed the Wembley win due to injury, and they could prove dangerous opponents for England in Athens.

Tip 1: Greece or draw double chance @ 10/11 with bet365

Greece were good value for their 2-1 victory at Wembley last month and they look a tempting price to frustrate England in Thursday’s return fixture.

England lacked any kind of creative cohesion in the first meeting between the teams but they appeared to have salvaged a point thanks to Jude Bellingham’s 87th-minute equaliser.

However, Benfica striker Pavlidis scored his second goal of the night to secure a famous win for the visitors, who have already beaten Ireland home and away in the Nations League.

Both of those victories were by a 2-0 scoreline, while Greece eased past Finland 3-0 in their opening fixture at home so England’s forwards are unlikely to cut loose in Athens.

Saka, Palmer, Foden and Alexander-Arnold, four of the Three Lions’ most creative players, are sidelined so backing the Greeks to avoid defeat is a decent bet.

England won 2-0 in Ireland on matchday one and completed a double over Finland but this looks to be the toughest test in the group.

Before the start of the Nations League, the Three Lions had won only three of their previous 12 internationals in 90 minutes and they should be opposed on Thursday.

Tip 2: 1-1 correct score @ 11/2 with bet365

Backers of the 1-1 correct score had a good run for their money in England’s matches at the Euros and that outcome is worth a bet when they take on Greece.

Three of England’s seven games at this summer’s tournament were 1-1 after 90 minutes, while they also beat Serbia 1-0 and the Netherlands 2-1, drew 0-0 with Slovenia and lost 2-1 to Spain in the final.

La Roja’s winning goal came in the 86th minute and Greece struck in the 94th minute at Wembley last month, denying punters who had placed their bets on another 1-1 draw.

England are nowhere near full strength for their final two Nations League fixtures and the Greeks are a tough team to beat.

They have suffered only two defeats in their last 13 internationals, conceding an injury-time penalty to lose 1-0 to the Netherlands and going down 2-1 against Germany, whose winner came in the 89th minute.

Another tight, low-scoring clash is expected when they host England so the 1-1 correct score merits a bet at bigger than 5/1.
