Paul Pogba has dropped a big hint that he wants out of Manchester United this summer…but which club is he likely to join?

Having spent what is still a British record transfer fee of £89million to bring Pogback to the club from Juventus in 2016 after letting him go for compensatory peanuts four years earlier, Manchester United now face the prospect of losing the mercurial French midfielder again.

After a roller-coaster third season of his contract in which he fell out with eventually sacked manager Jose Mourinho, had an initial purple patch under new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and then suffered a slump in form, Pogba was quoted as saying he fancies a “new challenge”.

Those words came when he arrived in Tokyo on a commercial venture for his sponsor Adidas, and they will certainly have sparked the attention of his former club Juventus, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane and Paris Saint-Germain, the super-rich club in his home city.

For all that they have invested huge sums in the World Cup winner and tried to create a team around him, United would not want to keep an unhappy, potentially disruptive player – and especially one who is reported to carry considerable influence in the dressing room.

The question is who can afford him? Transfer fees have moved on considerably in the three years since Pogba’s last move and figures such as £150million have been mentioned.

Real Madrid would appear the most obvious destination. They were reportedly strongly interested in Pogba before he returned to United and now have Zidane, a known admirer of his compatriot, back in charge. The issue is that they have already spent £270million in this transfer window on five players, including Eden Hazard from Chelsea.

Juventus would be another attractive option for Pogba, back at the club where he became a star. He would team up with Cristiano Ronaldo, but the Italian champions have an embarrassment of riches in midfield and may have to move some players out first.

Or will PSG come calling? Finance is no barrier to the Qatar-backed club and if they sell Neymar this summer, a space could open up for Pogba to return to the city of his birth.

Odds for Paul Pogba’s club after the summer 2019 transfer window:
