Napoli appear to be in pole position to sign Real Madrid attacking midfielder James Rodriguez this summer after his loan spell at Bayern Munich came to an end.
One player who seems destined to leave the Bernabeu this summer is midfielder James Rodriguez. The Colombian moved to the Spanish capital following his tremendous World Cup performance in 2014, but he has never quite reached the same levels in La Liga.
After winning one La Liga title and two Champions Leagues in his first three seasons with the club, boss Zinedine Zidane decided in 2017 that he was happy to send the attack-minded midfielder out on a two-season long loan to Bayern Munich, where he won two Bundesliga titles and scored 14 times in 43 Bundesliga appearances.
However, die Roten have decided against signing the former Monaco man on a permanent deal and now the odds-on favourites for his signature are Italian side Napoli, who are hoping to close the gap between themselves and Juventus next season and have identified the 27 year old as a key addition in helping them to achieve that.
There are some other clubs that have been linked with him at various points though, with the Old Lady themselves considered to be in with a chance as well as Manchester United who may be looking to bolster their attacking options ahead of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first full season in charge.
The bookmakers haven’t yet ruled out the possibility of the German champions returning for their loan star either with William Hill offering odds of 8/1 on a permanent deal to be thrashed out by Real Madrid and Bayern Munich before the end of the current transfer window.
