Liverpool are looking to add another attacking midfield option to their squad this summer and Marco Asensio is one of the players reportedly on Jurgen Klopp’s radar.
Marco Asensio may decide that it’s time to move on from Real Madrid this summer. Although he has made over 80 La Liga appearances for los Blancos now, the 23 year old has never established himself as a guaranteed starter at the club despite his obvious ability and potential.
Now reaching 23 years old and having made 22 appearances for Spain, Asensio may feel rightly aggrieved that on his return to the club, boss Zinedine Zidane has moved to bring in a handful of new attacking players which could see him drop further down the pecking order at the Bernabeu.
And as such, a move may be on the cards this summer. As is often the case with any star men on the continent, both PSG and Juventus are rumoured to be interested, but after signing two midfielders already this year, the Old Lady seems like an unlikely destination.
PaddyPower are offering odds on five Premier League clubs to secure Asensio’s signature this summer. Manchester United are one, although they do seem stacked in Asensio’s area of the pitch, whilst Arsenal are also in the running but seem to have set their sights on Kieran Tierney and Wilfried Zaha.
Tottenham is perhaps a more likely destination. If Christian Eriksen is to leave the club, then Spurs will need to replace him with an attacking midfielder also capable of playing wide, whilst they’ve been linked with two other Spanish players so far this summer in Dani Ceballos and Dani Olmo.
But the favourites for his signature this summer are Liverpool. The Reds have been trying to bring in an attacking midfielder for some time now, with their move for Nabil Fekir last summer having fallen through, and Asensio does appear to fit the bill although they may need to settle for a swap deal to make the transfer work.
