Republic of Ireland vs Switzerland Match Preview
Switzerland travel to Dublin for their Matchday 5 EURO 2020 Qualifiers clash on Thursday with a six-point gap to the Group D pace-setters Republic of Ireland, hoping to snatch important points and catch up with two games still in hand – after a disappointing Nations League Finals mini-tournament in June.
Indeed, Swiss Nati suffered narrow losses to Portugal (3-1) and England (on penalties after a goalless draw) in Portugal, seeing a three-match unbeaten streak interrupted once again. They’ve bagged four points in two Qualifiers clashes, though, and Vladimir Petkovic will have ground to build on as his men boast a solid goalscoring tally.
They’ve beaten Georgia (0-2) and held Denmark to a thriller 3-3 draw and while a trip to Aviva Stadium will be a tough task, we’ll surely see them very motivated. Republic of Ireland seem to be in a better place at this point as they haven’t seen a loss in almost a year with a more lenient schedule.
Boys in Green bagged two wins over Gibraltar (0-1 and 2-0), beat Georgia (1-0) and held on to a 1-1 draw in Denmark along the way, which promises them in a great mood. They’ve based such success on tough defensive displays and we feel Mick McCarthy will want more of the same, as his men build on a ten-point tally.
We do see them doing so and we’ll now stick with Ireland to hold off the tough visitors in front of the home fans, as we go for a Double Chance – Home win or Draw at 10/13 with Unibet. We’ve seen them very tough to beat over the past year and we feel they’ll prove such a character once again here.
Still, Switzerland have a lot to look forward to and they’ll want to make the trip count. We feel they’ll make their mark in Dublin and Ireland will have to cope if they’re to secure points, as we now also go for a Yes on Both teams to score at 11/10 with MansionBet.
