Poland vs Scotland Tips

Portugal have already wrapped up top spot in Group A1 of the Nations League, but all options are still open to Scotland when the Tartan Army head to Warsaw to face Poland.

John McGinn’s late winner against Croatia on Friday has given Steve Clarke’s men a shot at qualification for the quarter-finals, but the Scots must beat Poland and hope that the Selecao turn over Croatia in Split.

A defeat or draw in Warsaw would leave Scotland relegated into League B of the competition, while Poland need a point to secure a place in the relegation play-offs.

The Tartan Army will have to win without Aaron Hickey, Che Adams, Nathan Patterson and Angus Gunn, while McGinn may have to settle for a place on the bench again, despite notching against Croatia on Friday.

Poland will be without captain and record goalscorer Robert Lewandowski and the Barcelona forward is joined on the sidelines by Arkadiusz Milik, Pawel Dawidowicz and Bartosz Bereszynski.

Tip 1: Scotland to beat Poland @ 9/4 with Ladbrokes

Scotland know that only a victory will do when they head to Warsaw on Monday night and, while that doesn’t guarantee a victory, the Tartan Army look overpriced to down the Eagles.

Poland were crushed 5-1 by Portugal in Porto last time out and that energy-sapping contest saw Michał Probierz’s men concede 19 efforts on goal and 66 per cent of possession.

Friday night’s hammering leaves the Eagles with no chance of making the quarter-finals of the Nations League and there is little scope for improvement with key players Lewandowski, Dawidowicz and Bereszynski all out injured.

Poland did beat Scotland 3-2 at Hampden Park in September, but the Eagles recorded an open-play expected goals figure of only 0.24 in that contest and two of the their goals came from the penalty spot.

Scotland were the better side in that unfortunate 97th minute defeat and it would be no surprise to see the Tartan Army turn the tables in Warsaw.

Tip 2: Ben Doak to score first @ 12/1 with Sky Bet

Ben Doak went into the international break in flying form for his club side Middlesbrough and the on-loan Liverpool man looks ready to strike for Scotland.

Doak destroyed Luton and QPR prior to putting in another big performance against Croatia on Friday night and, while 10 Championship appearances have yielded only one goal, there should be more to come.

The Boro winger has hit 15 shots in the second-tier this season and 14 of those have come from inside the penalty area.

That suggests that Doak is getting into good goalscoring positions and the 19-year-old looks to have a nice chance of opening the scoring against a depleted Polish defence.
