Newcastle vs Watford Predictions
Newcastle United’s start to the season didn’t really appear to be going to plan at first. Steve Bruce was not seen as a popular choice to succeed previous manager Rafael Benitez despite his connections with the local area, and the fanbase appeared to be growing even more frustrated with owner Mike Ashley when Bruce’s first two games ended in defeats, 0-1 at home to Arsenal and 3-1 away to Norwich City.
However, a strong performance in the capital last weekend saw the Magpies escape with a narrow 0-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur and with record signing Joelinton getting on the scoresheet, things are looking up for Bruce and the Toon Army. They’re narrow favourites for another three points and their new manager’s first home victory at St James’ Park on Saturday at odds of 8/5 with Unibet.
Watford have endured a difficult start to the season. Under their current ownership, there has never been much stability in the dugout at the Hertfordshire club, but it seems to be a system that has worked for them over time. The current incumbent, Spaniard Javi Gracia, must be wondering if the pressure is on now following a poor end to the last season and a dreadful start to the new campaign.
After going down 0-3 to Graham Potter’s Brighton & Hove Albion on the opening weekend, the Hornets have gone on to lose to Everton and West Ham United, leaving them as the only team to not pick up a point three games into the Premier League season. A 3-0 win over League One Coventry in the EFL Cup in midweek may have boosted morale in the squad – can they take advantage to pick up a much-needed league win at 2/1 with Betfred.
We’re anticipating a low-scoring game here. Newcastle have still only managed two goals in their opening three games of the season, but that’s one more than Watford have managed thus far as they’ve drawn blanks in defeats to both Everton and Brighton & Hove Albion. The Magpies showed they will be tough to break down at times under Steve Bruce in that win at Tottenham last weekend so we anticipate another tight fixture with few chances and less than three goals at odds of 8/11 with Coral.
After that win over Tottenham last weekend, Newcastle will surely come into this game in higher spirits and confidence will be low among the Watford squad following that trio of defeats to start their Premier League campaign. With the defensive shape and solidity that they displayed in North London, we’re backing the Magpies to earn another clean sheet against a misfiring Hornets attack so the home win to nil is our second tip at 10/3 with Bet365.
