Newcastle United’s start to the season didn’t really appear to be going to plan at first. Steve Bruce was not seen as a popular choice to succeed previous manager Rafael Benitez despite his connections with the local area, and the fanbase appeared to be growing even more frustrated with owner Mike Ashley when Bruce’s first two games ended in defeats, 0-1 at home to Arsenal and 3-1 away to Norwich City.

However, a strong performance in the capital last weekend saw the Magpies escape with a narrow 0-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur and with record signing Joelinton getting on the scoresheet, things are looking up for Bruce and the Toon Army. They’re narrow favourites for another three points and their new manager’s first home victory at St James’ Park on Saturday at odds of 8/5 with Unibet.

Watford have endured a difficult start to the season. Under their current ownership, there has never been much stability in the dugout at the Hertfordshire club, but it seems to be a system that has worked for them over time. The current incumbent, Spaniard Javi Gracia, must be wondering if the pressure is on now following a poor end to the last season and a dreadful start to the new campaign.
