Leicester City have the chance to show they are better placed than Manchester United to challenge for Champions League football when they visit Old Trafford this weekend.

The door could be open for one club or more to surge up the Premier League table and finish in the top four this season at the expense of the usual suspects – and Leicester are looking the prime candidate at present.

Such a scenario appeared feasible when Brendan Rodgers took over as manager last February and made a strong initial impact which has carried through into this campaign, with the Foxes already in third position having started unbeaten in their first four games.

It has put them three points clear of United who, apart from a flattering 4-0 opening success against Chelsea, have found ways not to win since then – which suggests they will struggle to even get back into the Europa League again next term, let alone the Champions League.

Missing penalties, conceding soft goals and failing to break down 10-man Southampton have cost Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s young side so far, and they clearly have a lot to learn even though they have had good control over each of the three matches they have failed to win.

Essentially, the Red Devils simply cannot be trusted just now at odds-on until they regain that killer instinct and despite a poor head-to-head record, Leicester are the value to head home with at least a point.
