Tottenham’s record of scoring goals at the Etihad Stadium offers more hope than their recent away form as they aim to seal the deal in this Champions League quarter-final from being 1-0 up on aggregate.
As the stats above reveal, Spurs have scored on six of their last seven visits to the home of Manchester City. If they can do so again, the Premier League champions would need three goals to advance – but that is certainly well within the capabilities of Pep Guardiola’s side.
The worry for Tottenham is that while they have taken like a duck to water to their new stadium, with three consecutive wins to nil, it’s six defeats in their last seven games on the road – although the exception was in the Champions League, a 1-0 victory in Dortmund.
Harry Kane hopped off the pitch with his latest ankle injury during last week’s win over City and appears to be out for the rest of the season, but at least Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura have shown they can step up to the goalscoring plate in the absence of the England captain.
City, who also host Spurs in the Premier League on Saturday, have won all 11 of their home matches in 2019 by a remarkable 48-3 aggregate, which is ominous for Mauricio Pochettino’s side as they try to emulate what Liverpool did at the same stage of last season’s Champions League by beating City in both legs.
However, after suppressing their natural attacking instincts a little too much in London last week, City are sure to go for it this time and they should have enough firepower to ensure they turn this tie around in 90 minutes.
