Three matches into the season, the Premier League title race increasingly looks to be between only two clubs – and Manchester City should leapfrog Liverpool to the top of the table by beating Brighton.

Just four clubs remain unbeaten and while Leicester and Wolves have mostly been drawing their games so far, last season’s two protagonists are doing just what they did in the closing stages of last term and setting the high standards expected of two of Europe’s very best sides.

City are the only one of the duo to have dropped points so far, in a 2-2 draw with Tottenham and only then due to having a winning goal disallowed by VAR for handball in the build-up.

Otherwise it has been business as usual for Pep Guardiola’s men with a brace of emphatic victories away to West Ham and Bournemouth, with Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero already with nine league goals between them for the campaign.

Brighton began the season superbly with a 3-0 win at Watford on their debut under manager Graham Potter, but since then reality has kicked in as they have only taken one point from home matches against West Ham and Southampton.

It’s feasible that the way Potter sets up the Seagulls could make them a more dangerous team counter-attacking away from home, and on that basis it may be worth backing this to be more of a workmanlike win for City than a landslide success – but one that still takes them to the Premier League summit just before Liverpool visit Burnley.
