United were beaten 2-0 at Arsenal on Wednesday night, but that was a tough fixture and the Red Devils can welcome back Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo after suspension when Nottingham Forest go to Old Trafford.

History is certainly on United’s side with the Manchester men winning 12 of their last 13 matches against Nottingham Forest, but rarely have the Tricky Trees come into the fixture in such good shape.

Nuno Espírito Santo’s men were up in sixth position in the Premier League table heading into the weekend fixtures and Forest are unlikely to be easily brushed aside at Old Trafford.

Man United vs Nottingham Forest Tips

Tip 1

The general comments and reaction after Manchester United were beaten 2-0 at Arsenal on Wednesday were that there were positive signs for the Red Devils, but that appears a little wide of the mark.

The Red Devils contained Arsenal well enough in the first half of that match, but as soon as the Gunners raised their level after the interval, United were quickly blown away and Amorim’s men had no answer.

Clearly, Arsenal are a very good team, but the lack of quality, threat and pace from the Manchester side was stark and they look far too short to beat Forest at Old Trafford.

Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount and Alejandro Garnacho offered next to nothing in attack at the Emirates and United could register only two shots on target.

Of course, an Old Trafford test against Nottingham Forest represents a step down in difficulty level for Amorim’s men, but the Tricky Trees have kept five Premier League clean sheets in a progressive campaign, and Nuno’s men certainly shouldn’t fold easily.

Forest have a swift turnaround after their 3-0 loss against Manchester City on Wednesday, but Nuno can freshen up his side and avoid back-to-back losses to the two Manchester sides.

Tip 2

Manchester United have fielded Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Diogo Dalot, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo in defensive positions in their last two matches as manager Amorim searches for his preferred line-up.

The Red Devils looked extremely vulnerable from set plays against Arsenal on Wednesday and that may continue against Nottingham Forest.

The Gunners are the Premier League’s corner and free-kick kings, but United’s chopping and changing of personnel, and moving to a back three or back five can’t have helped.

Chris Wood has hit nine Premier League goals for Forest this season and the New Zealand striker will surely be relishing a crack at a rejigged United defence.

The Forest forward looks a good value bet to open the scoring at Old Trafford.
