Girona vs Liverpool Tips

Tip 1

Liverpool have been perfect in the Champions League this season with five wins from as many games.

A victory against Catalan side Girona on Tuesday would all-but secure a place in the last 16 with two league games still to play and they should be able to make the most of the opportunity.

Girona look a shadow of the side that spent a large chunk of last season challenging for La Liga glory after cashing in on a few stars over the summer. Michel’s troops sit a respectable ninth in their domestic competition, but have struggled in Europe with four defeats in five games, claiming a solitary win over Slovan Bratislava.

This will be an historic game for the Blanquivermells as it is their first competitive game against an English side but getting any kind of result looks too big of an ask.

Girona lost out 3-0 at home to Real Madrid at the weekend, have lost 4-0 to PSV Eindhoven in this competition and Liverpool are a level or two above the Dutch giants.

The Reds come into the game well rested after their weekend fixture was postponed. Liverpool were held to a 3-3 draw at Newcastle in their last game, but prior to that had recorded seven straight wins and four of those wins came by two or more goals.

Four of their five European victories have been by at least two goals and backing the visitors to cover a -1 handicap looks a decent option.

Tip 2

Mohamed Salah is Liverpool’s leading scorer domestically, but the goals have been shared around in Europe so there are better priced options than their star forward.

Cody Gakpo isn’t exactly an outsider but at 15/8 he offers a bit of value. The Dutchman has scored in Liverpool’s last two European games, against Bayer Leverkusen and Real, and has six goals in his last 10 appearances for club and country.

Tip 3

The focus is on the shots on target market to form this 16/1 bet builder, with two options from each team.

Gakpo is averaging 2.4 attempts per-game in this competition and 1.4 of those are on target. We’re backing him to score with our second tip and he should at least be able to test the keeper.

Salah averages 3.4 attempts-per-game in the Premier League and 2.0 in the Champions League. The Egyptian tends to be accurate with over half his attempts across all competitions recorded as on target, so back him to go over 1.5 attempts on goal in this game.

For Girona, Bojan Miovski looks a strong contender for over 0.5 attempts on goal as he averages 1.3 shots on target per-game in the Champions League.

Former Spurs man Bryan Gil is an outside candidate for the hosts and his inclusion provides a significant price boost on this bet builder.

Gil is yet to record an attempt on target in Europe, but in La Liga he averages a solid 1.4 attempts per-game and 0.6 of those are on target – and he’s had four shots in total across his last three La Liga games, scoring once.
