Bayern’s 1-0 defeat to Benfica in their final group match meant they finished as runners-up in Group C while Brazilian league leaders Flamengo topped Group D, ahead of Chelsea.

Bayern Munich stars Harry Kane and Michael Olise topped the Bundesliga goal and assist charts in 2024-25, but Flamengo’s Giorgian de Arrascaeta is having a similar impact in Brazil’s Serie A.

The Uruguayan attacking midfielder has made a blistering start to the league season, contributing nine goals and four assists in just 687 minutes of playing time.

De Arrascaeta registered at least one goal involvement in all but one of his nine Serie A starts, so it was no surprise that he scored Flamengo’s first goal of their Club World Cup campaign against Esperance de Tunis.

He also hit the post and the crossbar with a couple of lovely efforts against LAFC in their final group game and must surely play a big role if Flamengo are to upset Bayern.

They beat Cruzeiro 2-0 in the first leg in Munich before a goalless draw in Brazil.

Flamengo have already claimed one big European scalp at the 2025 Club World Cup, beating Chelsea 3-1 in the group stage.
