Aston Villa vs West Ham United Match Preview
West Ham United will be happy with how their season lifted off before the international break – and they are backed to make it four consecutive wins in this ‘claret and blue derby’.
The Hammers have spent big in the last few years to try and push up towards the Premier League top six and after an encouraging August, they are entitled to feel this may be the campaign when they finally do that.
Things could only get better after a 5-0 home thumping by Manchester City, but a 1-1 draw at Brighton was creditable and then Manuel Pellegrini’s side reeled off victories against Watford away, Newport in the Carabao Cup and Norwich City.
Sebastien Haller is so far justifying the £45million spent on him this summer as the striker to score the goals that fire West Ham to success, and the Frenchman is a player Aston Villa will need to keep the shackles on here if they are to give themselves the best chance of a victory.
Villa have been a team of peaks and troughs so far this term as they get to grips with life back in the top flight, and they give the impression of having lots of potential but still with plenty to learn about the Premier League – which is a new experience for their manager Dean Smith as well as a sizeable percentage of his players.
At present, West Ham’s greater knowhow at this level appears to be paying dividends and they are fancied to hold sway in Birmingham and capture three more points which would leave their fans dreaming of a much more productive campaign this time around.
