One of the most enigmatic but talented footballers in the world, Neymar’s move to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona in 2017 made shockwaves even outside fans of the game after breaking the record as most expensive transfer of all time.
Still the only transfer that has ever cost more than €200m, it’s fair to say that the move hasn’t worked out quite as planned as, despite les Parisiens continuing to dominate domestically, they’ve continued to struggle in the Champions League, the competition they desire more than any.
With rumours of Neymar causing problems with both Unai Emery and then his replacement Thomas Tuchel, with his off-field antics often making headlines more than his magnificent ability, transfer rumours have always surrounded the future of his career.
Having already come from Barcelona, the Catalonians remain the favourites to sign the Brazilian superstar should he leave PSG this summer. With the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele struggling to make an impact, another forward will be high on Ernesto Valverde’s wishlist this summer.
In England, Manchester United and cross-town rivals Manchester City are probably the only two clubs that have the financial firepower to tempt Neymar to the Premier League – but a move from either seems unlikely this season.
