Following the confirmed sacking of Unai Emery we take a look at the next Arsenal manager odds as the Gunners look to begin a new era.
Unai Emery’s position as Arsenal boss appears to have been under threat for quite some time now and following a dreadful attendance coupled with a poor performance and defeat to Frankfurt in the Europa League on Thursday night the board have unsurprisingly taken the decision to sack the Spaniard.
With a top four finish starting to look increasingly unlikely, the Emirates Stadium hierarchy have gone back on their promise to review Emery’s position at the end of the season and taken the decision to remove him now, leading to speculation as to who will replace him in the dugout.
One man who has been vigorously linked with a move to the club in recent weeks as the pressure grew on Emery is Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo. The Portuguese boss has done some great work with Wolves but could be tempted by a move to a more illustrious club and is the current joint-favourite at odds of 6/4 with PaddyPower.
Available at the same odds is Freddie Ljungberg, who has been part of Unai Emery’s backroom staff but remains at the club and appears to have been groomed for the top position since returning as a coach in 2018. The Swede appeared 216 times in a nine year spell at the club during his playing days and has been handed the reins on the caretaker basis for now.
Next in the running is a man who would be a very controversial choice. Could Mauricio Pochettino be tempted to remain in North London by returning to manage the rivals of the club who sacked him just a matter of days ago? It would be high drama for the Argentine to take the position but not exactly out of the picture at 7/1.
Also in the running are another former player in the shape of Mikel Arteta at 8/1, Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe at 10/1, former Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri at odds of 20/1. Who will the Gunners turn to in order to fight their way back to the top of the Premier League tree?
