Hakim Ziyech is a player who looks ready for a big move after starring for Ajax in their run to the Champions League semi-finals…but which club will he join this summer?
The 26-year-old winger was born in the Netherlands and has spent all of his career so far in that country, although he is a Morocco international and shone for them at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Having made the Eredivisie breakthrough with Heerenveen, Ziyech moved on to Twente for two seasons before joining Ajax in 2016 and winning the Dutch double last term.
Already this summer, Ziyech has turned down one transfer. A fee had been agreed between Ajax and Sevilla, but the prospect of that particular move to Spain did not interest the player because he did not consider it enough of a step up from his current club.
Nevertheless, the bookmakers are understandably not ruling out a change of heart and still make Sevilla among the favourites to be the club Ziyech joins this summer. It would not be the first time such a U-turn has been performed by someone in a similar situation.
However, the clear impression appears to be that Ziyech is keen to link up with a club that is firmly established as one of the ‘glamour’ locations in Europe.
That is still the case with Arsenal, even though they can only offer Europa League football this season, and they are the joint favourites for Ziyech’s signature.
Or perhaps an even more appealing destination for the player would be Bayern Munich, the other joint favourites. They need exciting talents who can attack from wide areas having parted company with Arjen Robben and Frack Ribery this summer and as it looks like they have been priced out of a move for Manchester City’s Leroy Sane, Ziyech could fit the bill.
