After making over 300 appearances for Bayern Munich, could Austrian star David Alaba be set for a switch to the Premier League this summer?

David Alaba has been a mainstay in both the Austrian national team and the Bayern Munich starting eleven in the last few years. Having joined the German club at the age of 16, Alaba rose through the ranks and has now racked up over 300 first-team appearances for die Roten since making his debut in 2010.

During this time, he has established himself as the first-choice left-back at the club for quite some time and has racked up over 64 caps for his country Austria, where he usually plays in midfield and is often granted the captain’s armband as the star turn in an underperforming side.

Now, with a raft of domestic and continental trophies earned during his time at the Allianz Arena, rumours are abound that the 27 year old could be looking for a new challenge and a handful of teams are considered to be in with a chance of securing his signature before the transfer window slams shut next month.

Arsenal are the frontrunners at the moment according to the bookmakers and they do appear in the market for a left-back this summer, although their budget may not be able to fund a deal for a first-choice player at Bayern Munich while they also seem more focused on securing a deal for Celtic’s Kieran Tierney.

Manchester United could look to bring in Alaba as a midfield option should they decide to allow Paul Pogba his reportedly desired move to Real Madrid and his ability to also fill in at left-back would be useful too. Tottenham Hotspur are also considered to be in the running as they reportedly look to offload Danny Rose this summer and could be in need of a replacement in the left-back berth.
