Senegal vs Nigeria Match Preview

Two of the top four favourites in the outright betting for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations meet in their last, and in Senegal’s case only, warm-up friendly match.

Egypt are the hosts and favourites for the tournament, Senegal generally second in the bookmakers’ lists at 6/1 with bet365 ahead of Ghana while Nigeria can be backed at 17/2 with Paddy Power.

In most of the six groups, picking the two teams to qualify for the knockout stage looks straightforward and that certainly appears the case with Senegal who, alongside Algeria, are expected to advance at the expense of their first opponents Tanzania and also Kenya.

Champions League winner Sadio Mane captains the Lions of Teranga and is joined in the squad by two other Premier League players – his Merseyside rival Idrissa Gueye and Crystal Palace midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate.

Nigeria, meanwhile, are long odds-on to finish top of a group that also contains Guinea, Madagascar and Burundi and their squad includes captain John Obi Mikel, Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi, Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi and Brighton’s Leon Balogun.

The Super Eagles have a very strong record against Senegal (see stats above) and could at least ensure neither of these teams heads into the tournament on the back of a defeat.
