Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund Predictions

  • Full Time Result: Real Madrid Win
  • Correct Score: 2-1
  • Both Teams To Score: Yes
  • Over 2.5 Goals: Yes
  • First Goalscorer: Vinicius Junior

This will be the second meeting between these two European heavyweights in less than five months, with Real having claimed a 2-0 victory when they clashed in last season’s final at Wembley to land their record-extending 15th success in Europe’s premier club competition.

Los Blancos started the defence of their title with a 3-1 home success over Dortmund’s Bundesliga rivals Stuttgart on Matchday One, but they were then beaten 1-0 in Lille, a result that leaves them sitting 17th in the 36-team league phase.

In contrast, Dortmund are top of the pile after winning their opening two matches in convincing fashion, following up a 3-0 success at Club Brugge with a 7-1 demolition of Celtic on home turf.

However, BVB have lost back-to-back away games in the Bundesliga to Stuttgart and Union Berlin and new head coach Nuri Şahin now faces the daunting prospect of trying to lead his side to their first ever victory over Real at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund Tips

Tip 1

It has not been a vintage start to the season for Real, who, as well as losing to Lille in the Champions League, have dropped points in La Liga on three separate occasions.

That will be a concern for head coach Carlo Ancelotti, but all those missteps have taken place away from home, with Los Blancos having won all six of their matches at the Bernabeu this season.

Indeed, they have not been beaten at the venue in any competition since Villarreal claimed a 3-2 La Liga success there in April 2023.

Real are also unbeaten in seven previous home meetings with Dortmund, winning five of those, so they will expect to inflict a first Champions League defeat of the season on BVB, who have shipped seven goals in their last two away fixtures alone in the Bundesliga.

Dortmund can get on the scoresheet in Madrid, though, as they are the leading scorers in this season’s Champions League with 10 goals, while Real have kept just one clean-sheet across their last seven matches in all competitions.

Tip 2

Vinicius Jr has had to share some of the limelight with Kylian Mbappe this season following the latter’s much-publicised arrival from Paris Saint-Germain over the summer, but the Brazilian is still scoring regularly, netting five goals to date.

Two of those strikes have come in Real’s last two games against Celta Vigo and Villarreal – he scored the winner against the former, while his goal in the latter contest rounded off the scoring.

All five of Vinicius’ goals this season have come in the second half of matches and three of them have been the final goal of the game.

The 24-year-old certainly knows how to capitalise when defences are tiring and he could have the final say in Tuesday’s contest as well.
