Ajax travel to Thessaloniki just days after their trip to Arnhem as they open the new campaign, looking to build on the Super Cup success (where they beat PSV 2-0 in late July) and find consistency despite a busy summer with three of their big stars leaving in big-money transfers.

De Godenzonen have been conceding goals regularly through the pre-season and this could be more of a worry for Erik ten Hag, as they get used to life without De Ligt commanding the back line. Replicating last term’s success will be tough but Ajax have a lot to prove and they’ll surely be motivated to do so.

PAOK will, on the other hand, have to look for an upset if it can be called that – as the Greek side boast great stability in front of the home fans. Indeed, they’ve last suffered a loss at Stadio Toumbas back in December and staying unbeaten now will be a crucial task despite a tough draw.

Popular O Dikefalos tou Vorra come into the match in great shape too, after bagging four consecutive wins since early July. They’ve beat Universitatea Cluj (0-5), Sint-Truiden (0-4), Anderlecht (1-3), and Fortuna Sittard (1-5) in some high-scoring clashes and while Ajax will be much more of a challenge, we’ll surely see them very motivated in the final third.
