Newcastle United vs Wolves Match Preview
Wolves have won their last three domestic and European away matches, including at Manchester City, but could find Newcastle a tough nut to crack.
After a start to the season that was dominated by their successful quest to reach the Europa League group stage, Wolves are back to the strong form that carried them to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League last term and are unbeaten in seven games in all competitions.
The latest in that trio of away victories was at Slovan Bratislava on Thursday and having previously won 2-0 at the home of the English champions with an Adama Traore double, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side should clearly have no fears about this trip to Tyneside.
But if there is one thing Newcastle are good at under Steve Bruce, it is keeping things tight on their own pitch and they have lost just once at St James’ Park this season when Arsenal scored the only goal.
The Magpies have kept back-to-back home clean sheets against Brighton and Manchester United, when they famously won with a Matty Longstaff debut goal, and went down only 1-0 away to Chelsea last weekend when keeper Martin Dubravka showed exactly why he has just been given a new six-year contract.
Neither of these teams is particularly free-scoring at present and both are pretty solid at the back, so there is unlikely to be much between them and on a weekend when we can see quite a few stalemates occurring, this may well be another.
