Manchester United could not beat Rochdale at home this week and even with a stronger team out, it is difficult to see them winning against Arsenal.

And it will be a United at far from full strength because they could be without Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial due to injury, although Luke Shaw may return.

Not once this season have the Red Devils produced a convincing performance and victory, and that includes their hugely flattering 4-0 win over Chelsea. Their ‘second XI’ was taken to a penalty shootout by League One club Rochdale in the Carabao Cup before edging through.

In all honesty – and this is being written by a United season-ticket holder – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side look a mid-table outfit at best, and they should be picked off by an Arsenal team who still perhaps are not receiving the credit their results deserve.

The Gunners’ only defeat this term has been away to rampant Liverpool and while manager Unai Emery’s selection policy continues to leave us scratching our heads – e.g. what on earth is going on with Mesut Ozil? – it is nevertheless effective on the whole.

In the league, Arsenal have not won at Old Trafford for 13 years and 12 days but they will have few better chances than this to end the drought in their first match since Granit Xhaka was voted as the new club captain by his team-mates – and he could celebrate with another goal against a club he has scored twice against in the past.
