Inter Milan vs Juventus Predictions

  • Full Time Result: Inter Milan Win
  • Correct Score: 2-1
  • Both Teams To Score: Yes
  • Over 2.5 Goals: Yes
  • First Goalscorer: Lautaro Martinez

Between them these powerhouses have amassed no less than 16 of the last 19 Serie A titles and on Sunday they’ll face off for the first time this season in a contest that could have a lasting impact on the current Italian title race.

After eight rounds of games Inter sit in second spot, one point clear of third-placed Juventus. Between them they have suffered just a single league defeat, though they enter game week nine trailing leaders Napoli by two and three points respectively.

The rivalry between these football giants is long-standing but, of course, it has been intensified this century after the Calciopoli scandal, which saw Juventus stripped of the 2005/06 title and relegated to Serie B.

Thiago Motta has made a solid start as Juve boss, tasked with transitioning them from a rigid playing style under the previous regime, but he comes into this off the back of his first competitive loss as boss after Stuttgart stunned his side at the Allianz Stadium in midweek.

While Juve were reeling from a late concession, Simone Inzaghi and Inter found a stoppage-time winner of their own from Marcus Thuram in Switzerland as they beat Young Boys to remain unbeaten and yet to concede in the Champions League this season.

They were, though, turned over last month by city rivals AC Milan and now face a big home test against a visiting defence that has only been breached once in eight Serie A games – and that came from the penalty spot.

Inter Milan vs Juventus Tips

Tip 1

Both of these teams were involved in scrappy affairs in midweek in the Champions League.

Juventus didn’t muster a single shot on target in the first half at home against Stuttgart, while that only improved to one in the second. The only goal of the game came in the 92nd minute.

Inter were marginally better, with one first-half shot on target against Young Boys, though they upped that to five after the break and Thuram scored from close range in the 94th minute to secure the win.

Juve have only scored one first-half goal in their last six games, while Inter haven’t scored in the first stanza in their previous two.

With so much at stake between these would-be title rivals, it could be a typically cagey opening half and it may be after the break before this game opens up.

Tip 2

Last season’s top scorer in Serie A with 24, Inter skipper Lautaro Martinez, was also top scorer at the Copa America in the summer and, perhaps as a result, has taken some time to find his scoring touch this season.

He didn’t hit the net in his first four in the league, but got a brace in last month’s 3-2 win at Udinese.

He added another in the Champions League win over Red Star Belgrade and bagged for Argentina in the rout against Bolivia this month in Buenos Aires.

He showed he is closing in on his best again with the only goal at Roma last week and he could be the difference-maker in this contest, where goals are likely to be hard-earned.
