Everton vs West Ham United Match Preview
Everton have stuck with Marco Silva despite being in the Premier League relegation zone – but the manager could be drinking in the ‘last chance saloon’ against West Ham.
The Toffees have lost four league games in a row after spending big on new players in the summer and Silva is struggling to identify his most effective line-up – a problem that actually dates back to the reign of Ronald Koeman two managers before him.
Silva is favourite in a very competitive Premier League Sack Race market with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Mauricio Pochettino’s jobs also possibly hanging by a thread, and it is very difficult to see how he will avoid the axe if his team suffer another defeat to the Hammers.
That is entirely possible too, because Manuel Pellegrini’s side are unbeaten in their last six away league games dating back to April – although they will have been stinging during the international break after losing 2-1 at home to Crystal Palace due to a winning goal that was initially disallowed but eventually given by VAR.
West Ham did not deserve that fate on the balance of play and they won at Goodison Park last term when Everton were in much better form than they are now.
Although this is absolutely a must-win match for Silva, it requires a big leap of faith to back the home team at odds-on considering their current dreadful run – and so having the other two options on our side at only a slightly shorter price looks to make a great deal more sense.
