Crystal Palace v Watford Match Preview
Crystal Palace will have been hoping to kick on for a top-half finish of their own this season since some better form in the second half of the last campaign helped them to steer away from the relegation zone under Roy Hodgson. However, an over reliance on Wilfried Zaha in attack remains and Hodgson’s side still seem to be lacking some key additions as they sit in a fairly disappointing 14th place at this stage of the campaign.
Recent form has been encouraging though for the South Londoners. In their last six games, the Eagles have managed four wins, including a stunning away victory over the reigning champions Manchester City and they’ve only been beaten once in that streak. A hard-fought victory over League Two side Grimsby Town in the FA Cup may have drained resources more than expected, but Hodgson will still be expecting three points here at 5/4 with Betfred.
Watford have got into the habit of starting the season in excellent form before fading off in the latter stages and this campaign so far appears to have already followed that pattern somewhat. After impressive wins over the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace in the early stages of the campaign, the Hornets have now slipped to eighth place in the table but they’re still looking good for a higher finish in the table this season.
With many expecting the side to struggle after their poor form in the second half of the last campaign, Javi Gracia has done a fine job of stabilising this Watford outfit this season, but he will be hoping for more consistency as his side go in search of a spot in next season’s Europa League. Having not won in their last three Premier League matches, Gracia will be hoping the FA Cup victory at Woking will boost their confidence as they go in search of an away win here at 5/2 with BetVictor.
Crystal Palace are looking to continue the good form that has seen them pick up wins in four of their last six games here. The Eagles have struggled for goals at times this season but have been a little better in front of goal of late and with the home advantage, we fancy them for the three points here. It’s unlikely that the visitors won’t get on the scoresheet though – Watford haven’t failed to score in any of their last eight games in all competitions. We’re on the home win and both teams to score bet at 18/5 with BetVictor
Although Palace have struggled for goals all season, one man who has looked more of a threat in recent weeks is Jordan Ayew. The Ghana international finally got on the scoresheet for the first time for the Eagles in his 23rd appearance against Wolves and he followed that up with the winner in the FA Cup against Grimsby last week. Can he continue the mini-streak and ease Hodgson’s worries with another strike here at 13/5 with PaddyPower
