Club Brugge vs Real Madrid Match Preview
Club Brugge have a great chance to prolong their European campaign this season when they host a Real Madrid side who are booked for a confirmed second place in Champions League Group A.
Real’s last hope of overhauling Paris Saint-Germain at the top of this section disappeared when they were pegged back for a 2-2 draw by the French champions at home last time out, having led 2-0 through a Karim Benzema double.
Instead, it is Brugge who have something tangible to play for here as they are trying to finish ahead of Galatasaray and thereby secure a berth in the last 32 of the Europa League.
Brugge have a one-point advantage over the Turkish club and anything they can get against Real – with whom they drew 2-2 in the reverse fixture at the Bernabeu after being two goals ahead at the break – will stand them in good stead, especially as Galatasaray are away to PSG.
Another boost for the Belgian side is that Real are missing injured Eden Hazard and Marcelo, while Sergio Ramos and Toni Kroos have also been left at home by manager Zinedine Zidane ahead of three La Liga matches in eight days, the middle one of which is El Clasico away to Barcelona next Wednesday.
However, it is still a strong Real squad that has travelled and despite having little in the way of incentive, they are backed to hold a focused Brugge side to a draw.
