Brighton vs Aston Villa Match Preview

Brighton have a poor head-to-head record against Aston Villa (see stats above) and look much too short at odds of 4/6 to beat them on Saturday.

Villa have already beaten the Seagulls twice this season, including 3-1 away from home in the Carabao Cup, and can be optimistic of collecting at least a point in their Premier League relegation battle.

Dean Smith’s side are in the bottom three after a 6-1 home drubbing by Manchester City last weekend, but have shown what they can do on their travels in 2020 with a 2-1 win at Burnley and a 1-1 draw at Leicester in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

Admittedly inconsistent, Villa have generally responded well to setbacks over the last month by getting a positive result in their next game and manager Smith now has the option of playing new loan signing Pepe Reina in goal due to Tom Heaton’s injury absence.

Although Brighton have looked an improved team this season under Graham Potter, their recent results have not been great with only one victory in eight and it’s a familiar problem in that they do not score enough goals.

On that basis, we cannot bring ourselves to back the hosts here at such short odds and there is plenty of evidence outlined above to suggest Villa can hold their own.
