Bournemouth vs Liverpool Match Preview
Bournemouth are on a worrying downhill trend – and things only get harder when they host runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool on Saturday.
The Cherries are repeating their form of this time last year with four successive defeats. But there are a few factors that make the current spell even more concerning for them.
Firstly, in 2018 they had enjoyed an excellent start to the season and had more points in the bag than they do now. Secondly, the defeats they suffered a year ago were in arguably more difficult fixtures than this season’s during November and at the start of December.
And thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, Eddie Howe’s side now have a tough run ahead right through to Boxing Day – whereas last term, they ended their bad trot by beating hapless Huddersfield at home. Essentially, they need to start turning it around soon or a relegation battle could beckon in the second half of the campaign.
For this match, Bournemouth’s top scorer this season, Harry Wilson, is ineligible due to being on loan from their opponents Liverpool.
As for the European champions, they have been trying to effectively wrap up a first English league title for 30 years before their fixture list becomes particularly crazy after next weekend, with six matches scheduled in 17 days followed by an FA Cup third-round Merseyside derby which may well be switched to Monday January 6.
Liverpool have won all their matches against Bournemouth in the last couple of seasons (see above) and with their hosts out of sorts, there looks to be no reason why it should be any different this time.
