Borussia Dortmund vs Celtic Predictions
- Full Time Result: Dortmund Win
- Correct Score: 3-1
- Both Teams To Score: Yes
- Over 2.5 Goals: Yes
- First Goalscorer: Kyogo Furuhashi
Dortmund scored three second-half goals to see off Club Brugge on their travels, while the Scottish champions were 5-1 winners at home to Slovan Bratislava – the first time they have ever managed to start a Champions League campaign in winning fashion.
Dortmund, beaten finalists against Real Madrid at Wembley last season, represents a rise in class for Brendan Rodgers’ side and they’ll need to be at their best in front of the famous yellow wall at Signal Iduna Park.
The hosts will hope to have Marcel Sabitzer available after the defender missed out at the weekend with a slight knock, but USA international Gio Reyna is still on the injured list.
The Hoops are sweating on the fitness of their own US star, central defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, and will be eager to have him at the heart of their backline while otherwise they are fully stocked.
Borussia Dortmund vs Celtic Tips
Tip 1
Celtic’s opening night win over Slovan Bratislava saw them scoring five times in Glasgow and that was enough to have them sitting pretty in second spot behind Bayern Munich in the first table in this new look format.
Bratislava, debuting at this level, looked a poor side and Celtic took advantage of that, but now they face a team in Dortmund with stellar Champions League pedigree, BVB having contested the final last season.
Celtic impressed going forward against Slovan, but there were gaps at the back that would have been exploited by a more clinical team and Dortmund are that unit.
While Dortmund can expect to trouble the Celtic backline, don’t anticipate one-way traffic as Nuri Sahin’s side have conceded nine times in their previous three domestic games. The Hoops, meanwhile, have scored 16 times in three games of late.
This should be an open affair and Dortmund can come out on top in a game with plenty of goals.
Tip 2
If Celtic are going to make an impact on this contest, then leading goal poacher Kyogo Furuhashi will need to have his shooting boots on.
That has proved the case so far in this competition as he found the net last season against Lazio and Atletico Madrid and was also in the right place at the right time to apply an easy finish against Slovan Bratislava two weeks ago.
The clever movement of Kyogo will be key and Celtic appear to have the players to find him with record-signing Arne Engles already impressing and wide man Nicolas Kuhn really finding his feet this season.
On offer at 8/1, Furuhashi can grab the first strike in this contest.
