Sheffield United face their toughest test of the season so far in the shape of early league leaders Liverpool on Saturday in the early kick-off at Bramall Lane. The Reds should have the quality to squeeze out the win in the end but we suspect the Blades will make it difficult for them early on after a solid start to life back in the top tier that has seen them hold Chelsea to a draw already this term – but the quality of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane should earn the visitors all three points.
Aston Villa have made a stuttering start to life back in the Premier League and they currently occupy one of the bottom three spots in the Premier League table. Part of those struggles have been disappointing performances at home against beatable teams such as Bournemouth and West Ham. Burnley are the visitors to Villa Park for this one and we think they’ll do enough to earn another point here.
Bournemouth come into this game on the back of two spirit-boosting wins over Everton and Southampton, but they face a West Ham outfit who are unbeaten since the opening day when they lost to Manchester City. Victory for either of these sides would have them dreaming of what could lie ahead this term if they can keep their good run going, but they look pretty evenly matched at present and we are backing them to emerge with a point apiece.
Norwich won plenty of plaudits for their attacking style last season but against Newcastle they may struggle to create chances this Saturday afternoon. The Magpies look set to be a rather attritional side under the guidance of Steve Bruce and only one goal was scored in their defeat to Arsenal at St. James Park last weekend. Both sides will see this as a winnable fixture and as such, we fancy it to be a bit tighter than the bookies are expecting with few chances at either end.
Saints have bagged four consecutive wins to nil on their travels, including 4-0 at their arch-rivals Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup this week, and they are now starting to carve out a real identity for themselves under manager Ralph Hasenhuttl after a difficult few years. Southampton will need to step up again if they are to make it five on the spin away from St Mary’s. They should be full of confidence though and look to have every chance of returning to the south coast with a point – but do not be surprised if they claim all three.
We’re backing a narrow home win here and Wolves to finally pick up their first victory of the campaign. Given how difficult their season has been so far, it’s unlikely to be a thumping win, but Watford’s confidence will have been dented again by that defeat at Manchester City last weekend we can see the men in gold’s superior quality and home advantage edging them through to a narrow win by a single goal margin.
It may be a case of anything you can do we can do better among the top two of the Premier League this weekend. After losing at home to Sheffield United last weekend, Everton are at a low ebb at the moment and they face the worst possible opponent now in the shape of Manchester City. The Citizens racked up eight goals in a home win over Watford last weekend so we back them to win by three or more goals here.
