Latest outright odds for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup – preview of the tournament in France and a guide to the range of bets available.

Defending champions United States, already the most successful team in the history of the Women’s World Cup, are the joint favourites with hosts France to retain their title in 2019.

Since the competition was inaugurated in 1991, taking place every four years, United States are the only country to have won it three times, including on the first occasion and the most recent as well as in 1999.

Jill Ellis led the Americans to the crown in Canada four years ago and remains in charge, with her squad of 23 for this summer’s tournament including vastly experienced stars such as forwards Carli Lloyd, Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe who are the trio of co-captains.

United States, who begin their group-stage campaign against Thailand in Reims on Tuesday June 11 before also facing Chile and Sweden, are the 7/2 joint favourites with bookmaker bet365 to lift the trophy, along with France.

The hosts have never reached a Women’s World Cup Final, their best achievement being fourth place in 2011, but hopes are clearly high that they can emulate the success of their male compatriots in Russia last summer.

Les Bleues begin against South Korea at the Parc des Princes in Paris on Friday June 7 before also taking on Norway and Nigeria.

Third favourites at 6/1 with Paddy Power are the only other two-time Women’s World Cup winners Germany, who were champions back-to-back in 2003 and 2007.

The Germans will take on China in Rennes on Saturday June 8 and also meet Spain and South Africa during the group stage.

And what of England? Well, Phil Neville’s team are the fourth favourites at 7/1 with William Hill and the manager is making no bones about their target, saying: “We’re going to tell the world we’re going to win a World Cup, we’re going to lift expectations.”

Ranked No 3 in the world by FIFA, the Three Lionesses have a strong squad captained by Steph Houghton while their other stars, including Karen Carney, Jill Scott, Ellen White and Toni Duggan, will feel this is their time to bring home the most coveted trophy in their sport.

England begin with a humdinger of a match against 150/1 outsiders Scotland in Nice and then face Argentina and the 2015 runners-up Japan, who are 14/1 to go one better this time.
