Had Liverpool not succumbed to a pivotal moment or two in their quarter-final second leg with Paris Saint-Germain last term, they’d have undoubtedly been the ones to lift the trophy in Munich. With a number of sharp recruits added to the roster, it feels as though Arne Slot and co can go all the way in Europe’s premier competition this time around.
Popular Champions League bets include various punts on outright markets such as the winner and top goalscorer, then on match specific selections, bet builders and same-game multis are increasingly popular betting options that people use to squeeze extra juice out of through low stakes and high odds.
Our Champions League match previews tend to go live at least 24 hours before a match’s kick-off time, with the aim of posting previews somewhere between 24 hours and 48 hours ahead of the chosen fixture. We here on Football Tips also follow a similar schedule when it comes to publishing tips on relevant pages, such as accumulators tips, bet of the day and correct score predictions.
With the Champions League’s new league phase format, clubs now play at least eight fixtures in the competition and some unfamiliar faces in the tournament means there are now wider betting opportunities and more value to be had by punters. Take a team like Aston Villa for example, they’ve already beaten Bayern Munich at Villa Park and were a fantastic price to do so.
Since underdogs can have more success in a refreshed format like this, general markets such as win-draw-win, BTTS, over/under 2.5 goals and various player prop markets, like player shots on targets, players to be carded and anytime goalscorers, can look and feel overpriced in certain fixtures.
The reformed Champions League format from 2024 onwards sees the old group stage system of eight groups of four replaced with a league phase consisting of an increased 36 participating clubs in which all competing clubs are ranked together. Teams play eight matches against eight different trams, playing half of those matches at home and half away.
The top eight sides in the league automatically qualify for the round of 16, while the teams who finish in 9th to 24th will compete in a two-legged knock-out phase play-off to confirm a place in the last-16. Teams that finish 25th or lower are eliminated and are no longer granted access to the Europa League. The tournament then follows the existing structure of its knockout phase, with a round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
The 2025/26 Champions League competition continues with its expanded participation list from 32 to 36. The following clubs are involved in the league phase format:
