Man United vs Man City Predictions, Betting Tips & Match Preview

Joe Vaughan 03 Mar 2026
  • Manchester United host Manchester City in a fierce local derby at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime, with so much at stake. United are getting used to life under interim manager Michael Carrick, while City are desperately trying to make ground on Premier League leaders Arsenal in the title race.

The action starts at 12.30pm and City will be targeting three points. Pep Guardiola’s men trail Arsenal by six points, so they have little margin for error if they are going to catch the increasingly assured Gunners.

Carrick is putting himself in the shop window with regard to getting the United job on a full-time basis. This match is a baptism of fire for the caretaker coach, though, and his may not have enough quality at his disposal to stop City getting the point they crave.

Whether it’s a goalscorer angle, a BTTS trend, or a high-priced underdog, each tip is backed by research and reasoning to help you bet smarter.

Why We’re Backing Antoine Semenyo to Score Anytime @ 9/4 with Bet365

  • The recruit from Bournemouth has made an incredible start to his City career.
  • Semenyo has scored in both of his first two games for City.
  • Semenyo scored in his final match for Bournemouth and is oozing confidence.
  • In the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, Semenyo had a goal controversially ruled out by VAR.
  • The £64m signing appears to have the full backing of Pep Guardiola and could get 90 minutes at Old Trafford.
  • Harry Maguire will probably be deployed to mark Erling Haaland, creating space for Semenyo to run into and shoot at goal himself.
  • Semenyo scored 30 goals in 101 appearances for Bournemouth, so he should wreak havoc in a much stronger side.

Why We’re Backing Man City to Win 3-2 @ 20/1 with Bet365

  • Manchester City arrive at Old Trafford with attacking momentum and depth that few sides can live with for 90 minutes.
  • Erling Haaland has an excellent record against United and thrives in open, high-tempo derby games.
  • United’s defence has struggled when pulled wide, which suits City’s use of overlapping full-backs and rotating wingers.
  • Phil Foden’s ability to drift between the lines could be key, especially if United sit deep and try to counter.
  • United remain dangerous on the break through Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes, which explains why goals at both ends look likely.
  • City’s pressing and ball retention should eventually wear United down, creating late chances even if the game stays tight.
  • With superior bench options and game management, Pep Guardiola’s side look well placed to edge a high-scoring 3-2 derby win.

Player to Watch

Kobbie Mainoo should finally get a chance to reward his army of fans on Saturday. The local lad is one of the most exciting midfielders to have emerged from Manchester United’s youth system, but he fell massively out of favour under previous United boss Ruben Amorim.

Mainoo, who has made ten appearances for England and started the Euro 2024 final against Spain, looked set to become a fixture for both club and country. Under Amorim this season, though, he started just one match – a Carabao Cup exit against Grimsby.

At the age of 20, Mainoo will be hoping that the sacking of Amorim will spark a return to the first team. United’s legendary manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has described Mainoo and youth products like him as the “heart and soul” of the club, and interim manager Michael Carrick seems to feel the same.

Expect Mainoo to be given a chance under Carrick. The performance of this midfield dynamo could be the key to whether United can upset City or not.
