Hungary vs Ireland Predictions, Betting Tips & Match Preview

  • Republic of Ireland’s shock win over Portugal on Thursday has put the cat among the pigeons in World Cup qualifying Group F and it is all to play for in the final group fixtures on Sunday.

Portugal looked to be cruising to next summer’s finals in North America but their Dublin defeat means they still need to claim a point at home to Armenia to book their passage to the States next year.

Meanwhile, Hungary and Ireland will slug it out in Budapest in a winner takes all contest that will determine who claims second spot, although the Magyars could still clinch top spot should Portugal fail to beat Armenia.

It leaves us with an intriguing contest at the Puskas Arena on Sunday in a decider which kicks-off at 14:00.

Hungary vs Ireland Tips

Our Tip Methodology

At FootballTips, every prediction is shaped by a mix of data-driven analysis and informed football insight. Our contributors consider a wide range of factors before recommending a bet – from recent form and head-to-head records to tactical matchups, team news, and underlying stats.

We look for patterns in goal trends, home and away splits, player performance, and betting market movement to identify where the value lies. We don’t just tip favourites – we aim to find selections that offer a genuine edge. Whether it’s a goalscorer angle, a BTTS trend, or a high-priced underdog, each tip is backed by research and reasoning to help you bet smarter.

Why We’re Backing Ireland Draw No Bet (9/4) with Betfred

  • A degree of caution should be used when backing Ireland away from home as the Boys in Green have failed to score in four of their last six matches on the road.
  • Their lack of a cutting edge away from Dublin has yielded just three wins in their last 10 away fixtures but they head to Budapest in a great frame of mind following Thursday’s stunning win over Portugal, and that could help them avoid defeat at the very least on Sunday.
  • Also working in Ireland’s favour is Hungary’s struggles on home soil.
  • The Magyars are in a strong position in the group and could even nick top spot from Portugal, but they have won just one of their last eight matches in front of their own fans and they may struggle to improve that record in what could be a nervy encounter.

Why We’re Backing Troy Parrott Anytime Goalscorer @ 19/5 with BetMGM

  • Troy Parrott was Ireland’s hero in the 2-0 victory over Portugal and he may be worth backing to follow up his Dublin brace in Budapest.
  • AZ Alkmaar star Parrott has bagged 15 goals in 15 matches for club and country this term and despite Ireland’s struggles to score on the road, he looks a solid choice to get on the scoresheet should the away side make the breakthrough.

  • Ireland have failed to score in four of their last six away matches.

Player to Watch

Troy Parrott was the hero for Ireland in their stunning 2-0 win over Portugal on Thursday as the former Tottenham man bagged both goals before half-time at the Aviva Stadium.

Replacing injured top scorer, Evan Ferguson, Parrott made the most of his opportunity to keep his side in with a chance of qualifying for next summer’s World Cup and he will almost certainly lead the line for the Boys in Green in Budapest on Sunday following his heroics.

Hungary vs Ireland Head-to-Head Record

  • 06/09/2025 – Ireland 2 Hungary 2
  • 04/06/2024 – Ireland 2 Hungary 1
  • 08/06/2021 – Hungary 0 Ireland 0
  • 04/06/2012 – Hungary 0 Ireland 0

Three of the last four meetings have ended in draws and another tight encounter looks likely with so much at stake in Budapest on Sunday.
