Leicester vs Sheffield Wednesday Predictions, Betting Tips & Match Preview

Joe Vaughan 03 Mar 2026
  • Leicester return to the Championship and should begin their new era under Marti Cifuentes with a win over stricken Sheffield Wednesday.

The Foxes will be hoping to push for promotion, but there is unlikely to be any such joy for the Owls, who have had off-field issues all summer as their future remains uncertain.

With limited preparation time under new manager Henrik Pedersen, Wednesday are unlikely to have enough available players to select a full matchday squad and face a tough afternoon in their 4:30pm BST kick-off at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester vs Sheffield Wednesday Tips

Our Tip Methodology

At FootballTips, every prediction is shaped by a mix of data-driven analysis and informed football insight. Our contributors consider a wide range of factors before recommending a bet – from recent form and head-to-head records to tactical matchups, team news, and underlying stats.

We look for patterns in goal trends, home and away splits, player performance, and betting market movement to identify where the value lies. We don’t just tip favourites – we aim to find selections that offer a genuine edge. Whether it’s a goalscorer angle, a BTTS trend, or a high-priced underdog, each tip is backed by research and reasoning to help you bet smarter.

Why We’re Backing Leicester Win & Over 3.5 Goals @ 6/4 with Sky Bet

  • Leicester were relegated from the Premier League with a whimper and may not be entirely out of the woods due to off-field financial questions.
  • The Foxes have had a quiet summer in the transfer market but are expected to be more active in the closing weeks of the window.
  • Fan opposition overshadowed the tenures of Steve Cooper and Ruud van Nistelrooy, however, Cifuentes is a more progressive coach and could bring excitement back to the club after retaining most of the squad that played in last season’s top-flight.
  • Life looks less optimistic for Wednesday and a year on from beating Plymouth 4-0 on the opening weekend, the tables might be turned on the South Yorkshire side.

Why We’re Backing Bilal El Khannous Over 2.5 Shots on Target @ 10/1 with Ladbrokes

  • Although they have kept key players, Leicester have waved goodbye to both Wilfred Ndidi and club icon Jamie Vardy.
  • An obvious replacement for Vardy has yet to be acquired, but winger Bilal El Khannous can help make up for the goal shortfall.
  • The Morocco international is being linked with his own exit after a decent maiden season in the Premier League, scoring twice and providing three assists.
  • Leeds and Tottenham are both thought to be tracking the 21-year-old’s progress, so expect him to try his luck and over 2.5 shots on target appears a likely outcome.

Leicester City Form/Stats

  • Leicester won 17 of their 23 home league games when winning Championship promotion in 2023-24.

Sheffield Wednesday Form/Stats

  • Wednesday finished 12th in last season’s Championship.
  • The Owls won nine and lost nine away from home in 2024-25 (D5).
  • Wednesday are believed to have only 15 first team players available.

Player to Watch

Bilal El Khannouss looks the standout player heading into Sunday’s match and it is little surprise that Leeds, Spurs and possibly others are keen on him.

The Belgian-born Morocco international can play wide but prefers to go through the middle as a number 10 and could thrive if a mobile forward such as Jordan Ayew is selected by Cifuentes to lead the attack.

Ongoing interest in him means El Khannouss has extra motivation to perform and he could inspire Leicester on Sunday.

Leicester vs Sheffield Wednesday Head-to-Head Record

The duo last met in the Championship in 2023-24, drawing 1-1 at Hillsborough before the Foxes triumphed 2-0 at home.

Leicester have won five of their six pre-season games, beating Peterborough, Leuven, Zalaegerszeg, Karpaty Lviv and Fiorentina, losing only to FC Koln.

Wednesday have only played one pre-season game, losing 3-1 at League One Lincoln.

They have been beaten on their last two trips to the King Power, in 2014 and 2024, but won three out of four before that.
