Joe Vaughan 23 Oct 2024
  • Jose Mourinho prepares to face one of his former clubs on Thursday, when his Fenerbahce team plays host to Manchester United in the Europa League. The Red Devils head to Istanbul off the back of a much-needed win over Brentford at the weekend, but still looking for a first victory in Europe. Going into the Gameweek Three 20:00 kick-off (Live on TNT Sports 2), Fenerbahce are two points and eight places ahead of Erik ten Hag’s men.

Fenerbahce vs Man United Predictions

  • Full Time Result: Draw
  • Correct Score: 1-1
  • Both Teams To Score: Yes
  • Over 2.5 Goals: No
  • First Goalscorer: Edin Dzeko

Not only will ex-manager Mourinho be facing United, but two of their former players could also start for Fener on Thursday evening.

Brazilian star Fred and former loanee Sofyan Amrabat are both expected to be in the starting XI for the home side.

Fener also have a whole host of other former Premier League players in their ranks – the likes of ex-Man City striker Edin Dzeko, ex-Southampton winger Dusan Tadic, former Newcastle forward Allan Saint-Maximin and one-time Everton striker Cenk Tosun.

United have drawn both of their opening two Europa League fixtures and have won just one of their five away games in all competitions, so far this season.

But the head-to-head stats make more positive reading for the Red Devils, who have won all three of their previous meetings with the Yellow Canaries.

Fenerbahce vs Man United Tips

Tip 1

Fenerbahce go into Thursday’s clash having lost just one of their last 11 competitive games at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

Mourinho’s men have drawn their last two fixtures, with a 1-1 draw at Twente in Gameweek Two before a 2-2 scoreline at Samsunspor at the weekend.

Meanwhile, United have drawn their last three on the road, finishing level at Crystal Palace, Porto and Aston Villa.

Ten Hag’s side, who will be missing midfield duo Kobbie Mainoo and Casimero, have also drawn both of their Europa League fixtures to date.

A point each would keep both teams in a decent position to qualify, especially United who have back-to-back home games next against PAOK and Bodo/Glimt.

Tip 2

He might be 38 years old now, but Dzeko has already shown this season that he still knows where the goal is.

The former Inter Milan, Wolfsburg and Roma star bagged 21 league goals in 36 appearances for Fener last season and already has five in eight this term.

Dzeko scored four goals in two legs of the Champions League qualifier with Lugano back in July to highlight that he still poses a threat at this level.

He also has a good record against Thursday’s opponents, having scored five times for Man City against their rivals – including a brace in their 6-1 win at Old Trafford in 2011.

With injury problems at the back for United, the Bosnia-Herzegovina frontman offers good value to score at anytime.
