National League Predictions & Betting Tips

To Win Outright

2018/19 National League Preview

Thanks to the two-up, two-down system of promotion and relegation to and from the Football League, the National League is now full of clubs with recent memories of playing league football. Chesterfield, Barnet, Leyton Orient, Aldershot, Wrexham, Hartlepool and Dagenham and Redbridge all find themselves playing in a tier they no doubt view as being a couple of rungs lower than where they feel they ought to be.

Despite all this league experience, it's a side with none that lead the bookies' predictions – Salford City. The winners of the National League North last term, the side is part-owned by five former Old Trafford legends in Phil and Gary Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs. Many expect this talented side to continue their rise through the English football pyramid, but there's a chink in the armour. Joint managers Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson left the club in May after failing to agree a new deal, leaving ex-Scunthorpe boss Graham Alexander to step in and take charge.

Of the rest, Chesterfield look best placed to end their recent roller-coaster ride which began when they won League Two in 2013-14. Club hero Jack Lester has now been replaced by the experienced Martin Allen, five times manager of Barnet. Speaking of Barnet, they have become the yo-yo team of English football, having now been relegated from the Football League for a third time. Ex-Orient boss John Still has been tasked with getting Barnet back up.

At the wrong end of things expect dire seasons for Solihull Moors, Gateshead, Braintree Town and Barrow.
