Zenit St Petersburg vs Villarreal Match Preview
Zenit host Villarreal for their Europa League clash looking to make their way to the Quarter-finals on the back of another solid display in front of the home fans, where they based their success through most part of the campaign already – including a 3-1 win over Fenerbahce in 16th Finals.
Lions now come into the match on the back of a narrow 0-1 win at Ural where a single goal from in-form Sardar Azmoun proved enough for all three Premier League points. They will now want to keep up their winning streak and we feel the Spanish rivals are in for a great challenge.
Villarreal have seen their troubled spell of form in domestic competitions continue with losses to Atletico Madrid (2-0) and Deportivo Alaves (1-2), sitting in the La Liga relegation zone with just 23 points earned in 26 outings – with Europa League success the only bright point now.
Yellow Submarine have been more challenging at home ground and will have high hopes ahead of the return match, but getting a positive result here will be paramount for Javi Calleja. However, getting it at Saint-Petersburg Stadium should prove a very tough task for his men.
Indeed, we don’t see the visitors snatching it and we’ll now rather back Zenit to earn an advantage with a Home win priced at 19/20 with William Hill, which seems great value seeing their performances here through most part of the campaign.
We expect a narrow occasion, though, and a lot could depend on their defensive setup – as we also back Zenit to keep a clean sheet at 5/4 with Paddy Power. Villarreal have struggled to score goals away from home on the regular and this could prove costly now as well.
