Lyon returned to Ligue 1 with a 2-1 win over Nice on Saturday and kept climbing back up the table, now travelling to St Petersburg for their Champions League clash in good spirits and surely hoping to build on the performance crowned with early goals from Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Moussa Dembele.

Les Gones thus bagged four wins in five outings across competitions and only saw Marseille (2-1) interrupt the streak. They’ve been scoring goals on the regular and certainly have ground to build on, which promises a strong challenge at Saint-Petersburg Stadium as well.

Zenit ended an unpredictable spell of form with quite narrow wins over Arsenal Tula (0-1) ahead of the International break and Rubin Kazan (1-2) after it, which adds to high expectations for the Wednesday’s clash. They’ve struggled at home ground lately, though, and Sergei Semak’s men have a lot to prove.

Lvi have four points to their name and will feel the top 2 spots at their fingertips, with Lyon sitting just three points clear. They travel to Benfica on the final day of the Group stage and the result here could make all the difference, where a loss would end their chances to make it to the knockout rounds early.
