Wolves vs Southampton Match Preview
Wolves turned around their worrying run of form in some style before the international break and will aim for a fourth consecutive victory when they host Southampton.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were by no means the first English team to suffer as a result of having to contest the Europa League qualifiers during August and when they got to late September without a domestic win, their prospects for the season were looking ominous.
But Wolves have now strung together three successes with clean sheets, capped by a fantastic 2-0 triumph away to Manchester City in which they stood firm and then hit the champions with a couple of late sucker punches courtesy of Adama Traore.
Now Wolves are odds-on to beat Southampton but it may not be straightforward because, not for the first time in recent years, Saints have been more effective away from home this term with four league and cup victories to nil so far on their travels.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side lost narrowly at Tottenham and the manager will surely have worked on the defensive part of the game with the players he had available during the international break having been visibly angry at the sloppy performance in the latest 4-1 home defeat to Chelsea.
Being out of the relegation zone purely on goals scored entering this weekend, Southampton need points to pull away from what could be a wide-open dogfight at the bottom of the table this season and there could be some value in backing them to add one more to their tally here.
