Wolves vs Manchester United Match Preview
Manchester United failed three times in 2019 to win away to Wolves – and are backed to have their FA Cup hopes extinguished at Molineux for the second season running.
The draw has pitted these clubs together three rounds earlier than it did in 2018-19, when goals in the last 20 minutes from Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota sent Wolves into a semi-final which they lost in extra time to Watford.
And there is something about the raucous Molineux atmosphere under the lights that appears not to agree with United. They lost 2-1 again there in the Premier League just 17 days after their FA Cup exit and could not hang on to the lead in this season’s 1-1 draw.
In terms of current form, the Red Devils simply cannot build the consistency they need. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side keep throwing in abject performances away from home, such as in the 2-0 defeats at Watford and Arsenal recently, that halt any growing momentum.
Wolves, meanwhile, have lost their last two, away to Liverpool and Watford, but previously had again shown how effective they are with a home crowd roaring them on when fighting back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against 10-man Manchester City.
United in particular will be seeking a reaction to their New Year’s Day defeat, but a fixture like this looks too stiff a test of their young players’ seemingly fragile mentality and it could be another night to remember for the Molineux faithful.
