Wolves vs Manchester United Match Preview
Wolves famously knocked Manchester United out of the FA Cup two-and-a-half weeks ago – and that result may well have a significant bearing on the outcome of this Premier League match.
Just as we predicted at the time, the crackling Saturday night atmosphere at Molineux played to the home side’s favour and they won 2-1 with goals in the last 20 minutes from Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota before Marcus Rashford scored a very late consolation.
It means Wolves will be at Wembley on Sunday for a semi-final against Watford who, ironically, were United’s opponents at the weekend when the Red Devils ground out an unconvincing 2-1 victory at Old Trafford in which they looked well off top form.
But with such a big occasion only five days away for Wolves, they may have one eye on that test and consequently not be quite so ‘up’ for this game as they were the FA Cup tie against United.
Moreover, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side lost 2-0 at Burnley on Saturday, albeit they were the better team and only sent two of their star men this term, Jimenez and Matt Doherty, on from the bench for the last half hour.
As well as the distraction factor for Wolves, United will be keen for revenge here and with their manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saying his players knew they had under-performed on Saturday despite their victory, better can be expected from the top-four hopefuls this time.
