Wolves vs Fulham Match Preview
Wolves are hoping to return to European football this season. Having once been regular competitors in the European Cup and UEFA Cup, the club have not been at the pinnacle of the domestic game for quite some time and as such haven’t competed in Europe since they were beaten by PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Cup first round back in 1981 but seventh place could be enough to see them return this season if Watford were to lose to Manchester City in the FA Cup Final.
As things stand, it’s the Black Country outfit that have the best chance of securing that seventh spot as they occupy it with just two games left, beating the Hornets last weekend who are their closest challengers for the spot. The likes of Leicester and Everton can also catch Nuno Espirito Santo’s men so they cannot afford any slip-ups here but after ten games unbeaten in front of their own fans in all competitions the hosts are favourites for another win here at 52/100 with William Hill.
Fulham’s first season back in the Premier League has been a disaster. Despite spending huge amounts of money on upgrades to the squad after winning last year’s play-off final at Wembley Stadium, the Cottagers have not been able to compete this season and have been through three different managers, with Slavisa Jokanovic and Claudio Ranieri both unable to arrest a slide towards relegation before Scott Parker took over with the season already over.
Despite demotion having already been confirmed, the Londoners have actually started to play with real freedom in the last few weeks and make the trip to the Midlands on Saturday on the back of a three game winning streak, keeping clean sheets as they have beaten Everton, Bournemouth and Cardiff in their last three games. Can they cause a real shock here and make it four wins on the bounce at 11/2 with Bet365?
We’re anticipating a low-scoring game here. Fulham have started to look more defensively organised under the guidance of Scott Parker and make the trip to the Midlands on the back of three consecutive clean sheets. Wolves have been strong going forward throughout the campaign but were held to a goalless draw by Brighton in their second-to-last home fixture so we anticipate another low-scoring fixture here at evens with William Hill.
Although Fulham have surprised everybody with their resurgent form in the last few weeks, we can’t see them making it four wins on the bounce here. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have European football to play for and we can see them closing out a narrow 1-0 win here at odds of 13/2 with Bet365.
