Wolves vs Brighton Match Preview
Wolves are understandably hot favourites for this match, but strong historical trends for their meetings with Brighton suggest this will be no straightforward victory for the hosts.
Pushing for a finishing position of seventh in the Premier League table that would yield Europa League football if Watford do not win the FA Cup, Wolves entered the weekend as the bookmakers’ favourites to claim that berth which is essentially in their own hands.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are level on points with seventh-placed Leicester and have a game in hand, albeit that is at home to Arsenal who are striving to finish in the top four.
This is being written a few hours before Brighton’s home match against Cardiff on Tuesday which will influence exactly how much relegation peril the Seagulls are in when they travel up to Molineux. Avoiding defeat in that game was the first priority for Brighton.
But whether they are safer or in greater trouble, Chris Hughton’s side can point to a very solid record head-to-head record against Wolves (see stats above) which gives them considerable hope of journeying back to the south coast with either one point or three.
There appeared to be a hangover from their agonising FA Cup semi-final defeat when Wolves lost 3-1 at Southampton last weekend and as contests between these clubs are generally tight, a solitary goal either way could be enough to settle it.
