Wigan vs Nottingham Forest Match Preview
Wigan will be looking to bounce from a 1-0 loss at Sheffield Wednesday that came ahead of the international break. Victory here would see them climb up from their current position of 20th and as high as 16th depending on the scorelines.
At the DW Stadium, the Latics have been strong winning three and drawing one of their five resulting in ten of their 11 points coming at this ground. Only three sides (Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday and QPR) have a better home defence than Athletic who have shipped just four.
Nottingham Forest went into the international break in great form with a 1-0 home success over Brentford their fourth in their last five. They are unbeaten in ten (since the opening day) and victory here by more than two goals would see them go top.
Away from the City Ground, the Tricky Trees are unbeaten with three victories and three draws from six played. Joe Lolley has scored in each of his last two on the road while Lewis Grabban has three from his last four.
Bookmakers make Forest the slight favourites to win this fixture but you have to respect how well Wigan are playing at the DW Stadium. It is unclear what effect Paul Cook being heavily linked with the Sunderland job (before Phil Parkinson) was appointed will have and as such a results based bet doesn’t appeal.
Forest have played six times on the road this season and five of them have seen both teams find the back of the net and this looks the angle into this fixture. Wigan are not prolific goalscorers but at home carry more of a threat while the visitors have scored in every road game this campaign. Joe Lolley has two in his last two on the road and looks worth an anytime goalscorer interest.
