West Ham vs Everton Match Preview
West Ham United are one of a cluster of teams looking to secure a top seven finish this season. With Manchester City having won the EFL Cup, seventh place will be enough for a spot in the Europa League and as things stand, the Hammers can consider themselves very much in the race as they currently occupy 9th place, with just two places and two points separating them from Wolves who currently occupy that coveted seventh spot.
Under Manuel Pellegrini, it’s fair to say that the side have grown into the campaign and have got better as their first season under the Chilean boss has gone on. The Londoners have been particularly strong in front of their own fans of late, going seven games unbeaten at the London Stadium in all competitions which will be particularly pleasing given the poor start they endured at the ground. The home win here is available at odds of 6/4 with William Hill.
Everton are also in the race for a top seven finish although they’re in a more difficult position than the Hammers at the moment. As things stand, the Toffees sit down in 11th place, two points behind West Ham and four points behind Wolves who still have a game in hand and it’s fair to say that it’s been a below-par first season in charge for Marco Silva who the club fought tooth and nail to bring to Goodison Park during his previous spell at Watford.
Although it’s been an underwhelming campaign from Silva’s men, there have been flashes of brilliance and indeed in their last match they managed to overcome Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea 2-0 at Goodison Park. It’s on the road where the Blues have struggled of late though, losing five of their last seven matches away from home in all competitions. As such, they’re priced at 15/8 to win here with PaddyPower.
Given the form that the Hammers have enjoyed in front of their own fans of late, we’re backing them for another three points here. This Everton side is unpredictable and if they turn up with one of their better performances they could halt a West Ham side that are fairly equally matched. As such, we can see the value in backing the home win here but perhaps it’s best to have the safety net of the draw too with the home win; draw no bet selection at 4/5 with Bet365.
Javier Hernandez scored twice in West Ham’s win over Huddersfield Town last time out, taking his Premier League tally to seven goals this season. The former Manchester United man scored for Mexico during the international break too in El Tri’s 4-2 win over Paraguay, so with confidence high we’re backing him for another goal in this game at 6/4 with PaddyPower.
