West Ham United vs Sheffield United Match Preview
Sheffield United’s impressively solid defence, especially away from home, gives them a fine chance of further extending their encouraging start to the season when they visit West Ham.
The Blades are executing a plan very effectively as they try to give themselves the best opportunity of staying in the Premier League after last season’s promotion – and it basically involves conceding as few goals as possible while nicking whatever they can at the other end.
A perfect case in point was at home to Arsenal on Monday when Chris Wilder’s side had only 31% possession and yet they achieved a famous victory, Lys Mousset scoring the only goal of the match on the half-hour mark.
It was the sixth consecutive Sheffield United game that finished either 0-0, 1-0 or 2-0 and it ended with them in the top half of the table. Just as significantly, they are undefeated away from home – and only leaders Liverpool can also say that of the 20 Premier League clubs.
That will certainly give the South Yorkshire club confidence travelling to West Ham, who were beaten by Crystal Palace in their last home game and then most recently found themselves comprehensively outplayed by Everton in a 2-0 away loss.
This looks like being another tight contest and Sheffield United should have enough about them to maintain their hugely creditable unbeaten away record for a little while longer.
