West Ham United vs Manchester City Match Preview

Manchester City have found a new home from home in the London Stadium and are expected to launch their Premier League title defence with a comfortable victory on Saturday.

England’s champions have made four league and cup visits to West Ham’s former Olympic venue and won 4-0 twice, 4-1 and 5-0. Last season they showed their former manager Manuel Pellegrini how they had moved on under Pep Guardiola as goals from Leroy Sane (two), David Silva and Raheem Sterling earned their latest emphatic victory at this ground.

After winning all three English trophies last term, City ensured they kept the FA Community Shield in the Etihad trophy cabinet on Sunday as they beat Liverpool on penalties after a 1-1 draw and there is no reason to think they will be any weaker in the 2019-20 campaign.

Guardiola has merely tweaked his squad this summer with the signings of midfielder Rodri from Atletico Madrid and left-back Angelino returning from PSV Eindhoven, while at the time of writing a deal for Juventus right-back Joao Cancelo was poised to go through.

West Ham, meanwhile, are placing lots of faith in £45million striker Sebastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt to replace the goals they have lost with the sale of wantaway Marko Arnautovic to China.

It may not be quite as emphatic as usual for them at this ground, but City are confidently expected to get up and running with a straightforward success.
